Below Farm

Set in the farm lands of Abu Dhabi, Below Farm is a specialty mushroom farm, taking mushrooms far beyond the simple white button mushroom. The farm brings to the UAE a wide range of mushrooms, never grown before in the region: Oyster, King Oyster, Shiitake, Lions Mane, Cinnamon Cap, Maitake, Reishi, Turkey Tail and Cordyceps. These mushrooms underlying umami meatiness across diverse range in terms of flavours, textures and forms that elevates them beyond a side dish, to take centre stage on the plate.

Recognized by the World Economic Forum as a Top Innovator in the Circular Economy space, Below Farm uses the power of fungi as nature’s tool in the circular economy to take waste organic matter available in arid climate and produce nutritious food: mushrooms. Mushrooms are grown on date palm leaves, spent coffee grounds & other upcycled materials, in a unique controlled environment facility.

The one-of-a-kind farm has been specifically designed for mushroom production in arid climates, using climate smart techniques: controlled environment agriculture, vertical farming, and IoT sensors. Each variety of mushroom requires dedicated growing conditions – and as such we control temperature, humidity, carbon dioxide concentration and light levels to ensure that each species gets the optimal growing conditions.
